Different bowlers have different bowling style to bowl. There are fast bowlers and spinners. There arm left arm bowlers and right arm bowlers. The fast bowlers have different actions of how to throw the ball compared to the spinners. They also have different techniques of how and where to throw the ball.
Techniques of a fast bowler:
- the in swinger
- the out swinger
- the bouncer
- the yorker
- the reverse swing
- the slower ball
- the off cutter
- the leg cutter
A good example is Jasprit Bumrah
There are different type of spinners like off spinners and leg spinners.Off spinners who bowl with their fingers to spin the ball. Leg spinners deliver the ball with their wrist to make it spin
Techniques of a off-spinner:
- the arm ball (a delivery that doesn't spin and therefore stays straight)
- the carrom ball (a delivery bowled by flicking the ball from the base of the thumb, making it change direction abruptly)
- the doosra
- the top spinner (a delivery that is spun to cause the ball to dip sharply and bounce higher)
A good example is Ravindra Jadeja
Techniques of a leg-spinner:
- the leg-break
- the googly (a delivery that spins in the opposite direction)
- the slider
- the top spinner(a delivery that is spun to cause the ball to dip sharply and bounce higher)
Some good example are Shane Warne and Anil Kumble
The bowler can dismiss the batsman in different ways
These are common ways to dismiss:
- Bowled:The bowler hits the stumps with the ball, dislodging the bails.
- LBW (leg before wicket): The umpire rules that the ball would have hit the stumps had it not been blocked by the batter's body (except the hand).
- Caught: A fielder catches the ball after the batter has hit it, before it touches the ground.
- Stumped: The wicketkeeper hits the stumps with the ball while the batter is out of their crease and not attempting a run
- Run Out: A batter is attempting a run but fails to reach the crease before a fielder breaks the stumps with the ball.
